Hey! I'm Aleksi Suortti
I am a 3rd year ICT engineering student specializing in embedded systems at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, with a background in University mathematics.
I have simple enough goals; come across a problem -> find solutions. What really drives and inspires me is a genuine curiosity to learn and build.
My skills and experience
Working background
I am fortunate to have had a plethora of seasonal- and full-time roles, ranging from Data Management to Enclosure and Electronics Assembly to EV Charging Product Develompent. My aim and ambition is to keep working with Embedded Tech and Industrial Production in related fields.

Skills & Approach
Rather than treating skills as a fixed checklist, I focus on gaining deep and fundamental understanding so that hard skills can be built on strong foundations. As I gain more experience from work and studies, curiosity has become a key driver in how I approach learning and technical problem solving.
Programming - Software & Firmware
C & C++: The primary languages I use in firmware and OS-based application development. I have programming experience in both embedded platforms like AVR and ESP32, as well as Linux on x86 and ARM platforms. My main focus is on bare metal and RTOS programming, where timing and memory efficiency are key.
The tools I use most are VS code where I use PlatformIO for quick prototyping using the Arduino framework and ESP-IDF for in-depth ESP32 and FreeRTOS programming. I use Atmel Microchip Studio for AVR register-level firmware development and low-level debugging, and assembly analysis.
WEB & Networking: HTML, CSS and JavaScript experience from projects and coursework for creating web-based interfaces and sites like this one. Web development and design is not my main focus, but something I value for making interfaces for projects where on-device UI or controls are impractical, or too resource-heavy.
I have experience with IP networking, and have implemented small HTTP servers for embedded projects on ESP32 and on ARM based Linux BeagleBoard SBC. This site is self-hosted, for example. I am familiar with the MQTT protocol, and have implemented it in a weather station course project.
Data Analysis & Computational tools: I have experience with Python & MicroPython, R, MATLAB, and basic SQL/noSQL databases primarily through coursework and small projects.
- Python & MicroPython: Statistical data analysis and machine learning experiments. MicroPython used in a Raspberry Pi Pico course project.
- R: Used in advanced statistical analysis methods in university coursework.
- MATLAB: Used as a broader computational tool, for example; used in signal spectrum analysis using Fourier transforms.
- SQL/noSQL: Database design and querying basics using mySQL and MongoDB tools.
Electronics & Embedded Hardware
- Microcontrollers: Experience working with MCUs like ATmega328, 4809 and ESP32 on complete microcontroller boards, as well as isolated ICs. Knowledge on utilising MCU peripherals like GPIO, timers/counters, ADC and PWM as well as advanced interrupts and power modes. My aim is to familiarize myself with different MCUs and architectures to be able to make application approppriate component choices.
- Circuit Design: Breadboard prototyping and PCB design basics in Altium Designer from schematic to layout to PCB, as well as PCB manufacturing using CNC milling. Experience designing circuits using passive and active components like op-amps and transistors. Analog and digital interfacing with sensors and actuators.
- Communications: SPI and I2C used with sensors as well as displays based on SSD1306 and st7789 driver chips, as well as SD-card reading.
- Tools & Testing: Hands-on experience hardware debugging and validation using multimeters and oscilloscopes as well as analysis using LTSpice simulation.
Other Technical & Practical skills
- 3D design and printing: Hobby level 3D-printing experience, design skills in Autodesk Inventor Professional. Production for enclosures and parts for projects and coursework.
- Assembly Work: Multiple years of industrial assembly and production working experience. Production and reading of technical documentaion and electrical schematics.
- Forklift operation: Working experience on operating counterweight and multiway forklifts.
Strengths & key experiences
Through both studies and hands-on work, I have developed strengths and insight that shape how I work and communicate as a team member, as well as how I approach technical systems and problem-solving.
I value well established prioritization and goals, and work best when expectations are clear. This mindset was reinforced during my work as an R&D Trainee at Fibox Charging Solutions, where I often had multiple tasks to juggle like assisting with EMC validation and producing manufacturing instructions to help finalize a new BluEV product. Staying organized and focused are among my core values.
I am very troubleshooting- and debugging-oriented in coursework projects and work. Working in R&D, and making projects for myself I have become strong in independent problem solving, although I hold the opinion that troubleshooting often works best in a team, as it’s usually hardest to spot your own mistakes.
